The Graft

Elsie Clayton has gotten off heroin and desperately wants her husband Tony to do the same, but he finds it hard to abandon his grafting lifestyle and the habit that at least gives his life a focus. Their daughter Emily dreams of the day her knight in shining armour will carry her off into the sunset while their son Jordan owes a big time gangster money and is coerced into driving prostitutes from job to job.

Broken Youth

When rebellious teenager Misty Sullivan falls pregnant to a local wannabe gangster, she soon becomes a prisoner in her own home. Despite the betrayal of her best friend, she eventually recovers her self-belief and plots revenge on her abusive boyfriend with spectacular consequences. This gripping tale sees the impressive debut of Karen Woods in the first of a series of novels based on characters living on a Manchester council estate. Themes of social deprivation, self-empowerment, lust, greed and envy come to the fore in this authentic tale of modern life.

 The Estate

Best friends Melanie and Diane have grown up together on a 1980s Manchester council estate but when Diane gets pregnant mystery surrounds the identity of the father - is it honest, hardworking Gary or John, the layabout son of the estate pub landlord?

Forced into marriage at just 17 to Gary by a domineering father, home life soon becomes dull for Diane, while Melanie's boyfriend John gets involved with local dealer Donny and soon comes up with a plan to set up on his own.

Yet all is not as it first appears and secrets, lies and sweet revenge soon occupy the minds of the characters in Karen Woods' latest gritty novel.
